    Why Detox?

    Types of Detox

The first step towards reclaiming control of your life is detoxification, which involves the medically-supervised administration of medications to help alleviate the symptoms of withdrawal as alcohol or abusive drugs are processed out of the body.  At our facility, we can provide personalized care based on each patient’s symptoms of withdrawal. We understand and treat each patient as a unique case. Every patient experiences different symptoms of withdrawal. We utilize a variety of traditional and complementary modalities to make the detox experience as comfortable as possible. Withdrawal management is not only about dealing with the physical symptoms, but also the mental and emotional symptoms. Our comprehensive wellness providers work in close collaboration with our board-certified addiction medicine physician to focus on each individual’s unique physical and emotional state in order to provide a highly-customized and holistic approach throughout the detox process.

Withdrawal symptoms can vary widely but may include any of the following symptoms:

At the facility, our medically supervised recovery team is prepared to help you detox from a variety of drugs, including alcohol, opiates (including Oxycodone, Heroin and Methadone) Benzodiazepines (including Xanax, Ativan and Valium), stimulants (including cocaine, methamphetamines and ecstasy), and others. Each drug treatment classification has its own procedures and its own risks. Therefore, each person will receive an individualized treatment plan based on their needs.  Checking into a comprehensive medical center like ours provides reassurance that if there are any unexpected problems, we have the medical staff and services to help you immediately.

    Alcohol Detox

When a heavy drinker stops consuming alcohol, their body goes into withdrawal. Without proper management, the symptoms of alcohol withdrawal may include: nausea, vomiting, headaches, body aches, hot and cold flashes, rapid pulse, anxiety, sleep disturbances, delirium, tremors, hallucinations, and even seizures. We are committed to making this process safe and comfortable, minimizing the pain, discomfort, and risk. While some programs offer an outpatient approach to alcohol detox, there is a much higher completion rate in inpatient programs. Additionally, we are able to offer 24-hour care to help ensure your comfort and safety. We utilize experienced RNs who have the ability to rapidly assess any change in your condition, at which point our medical team can make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan, if needed.

    Opiate Detox

Opiates/Opioids are drugs commonly used for pain management and relief. Here are some of the most common drugs in this category: OxyContin, Oxycodone, Vicodin, Heroin, Methadone, Codeine, Hydrocodone, Morphine, Darvocet, Percocet and Percodan.

When someone stops taking opiates, withdrawal and symptom onset begins almost immediately. Opiates/Opioids causes symptoms of extreme illness, which can last for two weeks or more. Possible symptoms include: sweats, shakes, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, cramping, headache, delirium and others. Because of its intensity and inherent risk, in order to be done safely, opiate detox should take place in a hospital setting, supervised by licensed medical professionals.

    Benzodiazepine Detox

Benzodiazepines are primarily prescribed as anti-anxiety and insomnia medication. Some of the most common drugs in this category are: Xanax, Valium, Ativan, Librium and Klonopin.

When someone stops taking benzodiazepines, withdrawal begins almost immediately and can be severe. Possible side effects can include: nausea, cramping, anxiety, agitation, fever, sweating and seizures. Because of its intensity and inherent risk, in order to be done safely, detox should take place in a hospital setting, supervised by licensed medical professionals.

    Stimulant Detox

Stimulants include a variety of substances such as amphetamines, methamphetamines, cocaine, crack cocaine, and ecstasy. They are often referred to as “uppers” because of the euphoric feelings that come when taking them.  Some stimulants can be legal or legitimate, but many of them are illegal. When taken illegally, they are usually abused for staying awake to party or to suppress your appetite. If legal, such as Adderall prescribed by a doctor, they may be used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or narcolepsy.  They can be orally taken, sniffed, injected or smoked depending on the type of stimulant.

Withdrawal from stimulants can be intense. Symptoms can be both physical and mental. The withdrawal symptoms are generally the opposite of the effects from stimulants. The symptoms can include feelings of sadness or depression, low energy, anxiety, agitation, cravings, and insomnia. Severe depression is the most serious symptom because it can quickly be associated with suicidal ideation. Our facility provides a safe, medically monitored detox fully staffed with a licensed physician, recovery coach, and psychotherapists, all of whom are experienced and equipped to help patients detox in the utmost comfort and safety.

I don’t want anyone to find out I’m in detox. Is that a problem?

At Palm Beach Detox and Wellness, our facility caters to high profile individuals, such as business leaders, athletes and socialites. Discretion and patient privacy are of the utmost importance to our program. As a result, we understand the need for privacy during the detox process. Our Recovery and Wellness team members are trained to treat all of our patients with dignity, respect and discretion, and our facility is designed to help maintain your privacy.

Do you offer holistic treatment options?

Yes we do offer holistic treatment care at our facility. Holistic treatment is widely used as complementary and alternative medicine practice in a wide variety of treatment facilities nationwide. We offer mindfulness meditation, acupuncture, energy healing, massage, and rollology just to name a few. Each patient will be able to select from a daily menu of services to fit their individual needs.

How long will the detox process take?

The length of time needed for detox is highly variable depending on several factors including what substance the patient is using, how long they have been using, and the quantity they are using. It can also vary based on any medical complications. We do not discharge any patient until the medical and wellness staff agrees that a patient is stable and ready. Because we are a private pay facility, the length of stay is determined by the progress of the patient as opposed to a facility that takes insurance which may discharge according to how many days the insurance plan will cover. We have the flexibility to keep a patient as long as medically necessary.
